Last monday I had the pleasure of
visiting my firs tourist sight in the mission. I imagine I felt
slightly my traveling tourist sister in Italy who is constantly
surrounded by ancient buildings and loads of histoy. I visited the
church of the saint loudres. It is an exact repilica of the one in
france and is HUGE! with luck, they had a service going on. Its like
saint week or something odd like that. We entered to see every
¨practicing¨ catholic getting blessing with laying on of hands and some
really different never seen before ceremonies. we even got to go
upstairs which is called ¨the temple¨ everything beautiful white. It
is an incredible building. On the side is a huge cave to represent the
tomb with a big mary saint on the side. DUring the whole day, looking
in every corner I found one Jesus Christ you dont want to know how many
beautiful full size saints I found... After ward we went into the
shop to by a sovenier... I came away with nothing of Christ. I wanted
to ask every nun in sight where was the Jesus? I dont know about you
but it made me so proud to represent him on my nametag, that way people
dont get confused on who I really worship and love. and even more
grateful that we worship a LIVING Christ. I either way I was more
converted to our church by visting this one. If it wasnt a rule I
probably would have started inviting people to church sunday...
on the way out I asked my comp if we could drink the holy water or it
was against mission rules... we cant drink any water from foucets..
however if it is sacred maybe the rule doesnt apply? we decided it
would be best to pass...
Tuesday
we walked into the house of members to only hear english,... that was a
weird feeling. This family lived in cali for years and speak
perfectly. they made us home made corn dogs and we even had cold slaw
and nachos... I did not want to leave, I found the perfect best friend
for bubbus! this family is like an argetine version of ours. It was
like christmas! never have I loved corndogs more...
funny story, Last sunday we were walking to church
and my comp starts spassing... oh no what happened? a bird had pooped
right on her forehead... haha we were walking with a investigatores and
they just about died laughing... to make the story during gospel
principles we talked about the creation and presperving nature and wild
life... haha our investigatores just got a hoot out of it. It was
pretty priceless.
This past week there was a fair, IT
WAS SO AWESOME! we walked around loving it and we bought some great
stuff. FIrst off my comp bought an argetine sweater for her dog...
people spend more money on their dogs than their children its quite
saddening... and I looked around and thought evereything was pretty
pricey. So I made a game plan. I brought with me nothing more than 5
dollars. I found something I loved looked at the man and laid down my
offer, and inviting him to accept. No questions he took me up on it..
You see everyone here thinks they can fool us americans yankees.. but
no, I have had practice on my mexican cruise lines and I know my
argentine pesos. I came away so happy with my five dollar purchase!! (
KEY NOTE... I will really love you if you send me some dollar bills,
nothing too big obvi in the mail but now that I am looking around
dollars are very handy. Everyone wants them and if I pull out normal
money f rom my bank card I lose A TON of money. THANKS, think of it was
an early christmas gift...)
This week was a good way to start out the new
transfer. As I am staying with hermana Davis her last transfer we set
some goals right from the beginning. I know this transfer will bring
challenges in itself as I know she is anxious to finish up and all the
thoughts that lie up ahead. However I am determined to not let us slip ,
I want this to be her strongest transfer. the most memorable, and so
she can really leave knowing she gave it all and up to the finish line,
not before. That being said, obedience is huge. More than anything it
is avoiding too much time with members and not giving up before we
reach our goals. As our goals now are measured on our own stamina its
very impòrtant to be diligent! We have seen some great miracles this
week for pushing forward when we felt tired. Yesterday for example we
still didnt have all our contacts, one new, one leccion with less
active, and one with member. We started contacting everyone. I saw a
lady and said to myself ¨nah I wont contact this one.¨ WRONG I will!
and she ended up being a member who we didnt even know exisited. NEVER
postpone a prompting! she ended up letting us into her house with a
whole bunch of less actives and non members. We got all in one. and
they are wonderful people! we shared pictures and memories of our
baptism and we hope to see them at an activity we are having today. and
all because we put our faith to action in reaching our goals. It made
my week and was such a testimony building experience! We also recieved
a referencia from the elders and we looked high and low for this house.
when we finally found it no one by the name we had lived there.
However we met someone named Leo, that is just incredible! We had two
lessons with him and he came to church yesterday with us, he LOVED it.
sometimes I just feel spoiled with blessing in the work! Its just a
reassurance that some blessings come sooner, some later and maybe some
wont come until we die, but they WILL come if we trust in Jesus Christ.
I love being a missionary, really truly do!
Word on the street is I sing better in spanish than
english.. haha never thought I would sing in sacrament meeting but when
you are asked five mintues before the meeting to eat up some time, you
have no option but to say ¨I will go and do the things the lord
commands¨. Who needs english anyways?
Love you homebase and miss you!
